Junior Road Safety Officers

We take children’s safety very seriously at St Bede’s, which is why our school participates in the Junior Road Safety Officer scheme, launched by Durham County Council’s road safety team.

We have dedicated JRSOs in Years 5 and 6. They meet regularly with Mrs Maitland, our Higher Level Teaching Assistant, and Gillian Pace, Durham County Council Assistant Road Safety Officer.

Our JRSOs promote road safety awareness to all the pupils in our school and their families. They hold JRSO assemblies, send messages home via leaflets and launch road safety competitions. Last year, our JRSOs even helped to ensure the safety of our whole school by attending a planning committee meeting, resulting in local developers funding a 20mph zone and a whole school set of high visibility jackets!
